Guji Hambela Rogicha comes from the Hambela district of Ethiopia's Guji zone, where producer Bernabas Berhanu grows heirloom varieties at around 2,050 metres. The cherries are dried whole on raised beds, a natural process that pushes fruit and sweetness to the front of the cup.

Roasted by The Espresso Lab in Dubai, it opens with berries and blackcurrant and settles into a long, honey-sweet finish. Brew it as a pour-over to show off the fruit, or pull it as a bright, syrupy espresso.

Guji is one of Ethiopia's most celebrated coffee zones, and Hambela its most famous district. Sitting above 2,000 metres, farms here grow indigenous heirloom varieties that give Ethiopian coffee its floral and berry character.

Bernabas Berhanu's lot is naturally processed: whole cherries are dried slowly on raised African beds for two to three weeks, concentrating sugars and fruit. The Espresso Lab roasts it to keep the berry brightness while developing a honeyed body, so it works for both filter and espresso.
