Tereré Recipe: Cold Yerba Mate with Citrus & Mint

Tereré — Argentine Cold Yerba Mate with Citrus & Mint

The traditional way South Americans drink mate in the heat. Cold, herbaceous, and endlessly refillable. Uses Mate & Co's Citrus Yerba Mate with mint, ginger and lemon already in the blend.

Ingredients

Steps

  • 1. Pack the yerba: Fill a mate cup (or any tumbler) two-thirds full with 3 tbsp Mate & Co Citrus Yerba Mate. Tilt the cup and pack the yerba to one side — this keeps the bombilla straw clear.
  • 2. Add ice and citrus: Fill the remaining space with 1 cup crushed ice. Add 4 fresh mint leaves and the juice of 0.5 fresh lime on top.
  • 3. Pour cold and drink: Slowly pour 200 milliliters of cold water or cold lemonade over the ice. Never use hot water — that's mate, not tereré. Insert the bombilla straw and drink immediately.
  • 4. Keep refilling: Refill with cold water each time it empties. The same yerba can be refilled 4–6 times before losing flavour.

Notes

Tereré is meant to be shared — pass the cup around. If you don't have a bombilla, a regular metal straw with a fine filter works. The yerba mate range and accessories are all on PERCUP.
